about
It all began in 2015 as a little "hole-in-the-wall" at 525 Hudson St in the West Village in New York City. What started out as a dream, has turned into a reality. We have turned our fun, casual, neighborhood Filipino "dive-bar" into America's favorite restaurant destination, with global recognition. Being the Original Filipino Taqueria ®, we have cultivated an amazing loyal following that appreciates our modern take on an approachable Am-Asian menu. Highlights include burritos full of longanisa sausage and adobo chicken, sinigang rice bowls bursting with flavor as well as handmade ube and calamansi ice creams. Although we have expanded a bit over the years, we have never lost sight of our mission to introduce Am-Asian flavors to the masses, one tasty dish at a time.
our story
In the Spring of 2015, David and I hired Jordan Andino (@fork_knife) to fill the role of Executive Chef of an extremely popular and large seasonal seafood restaurant in Sag Harbor NY. In addition to being impeccably trained and having worked at some of the most revered and prestigious restaurants in the US, Jordan had just wrapped a season as the personal chef to the Kardashians while they filmed their TV series in the Hamptons.
Even during the interview for our Sag Harbor venue, Jordan stood out immediately from all of the other candidates. From the beginning of the pre-season preparations through the end of the overwhelmingly busy summer season in the Hamptons, Jordan’s attention to detail, motivation and professional demeanor greatly contributed to a hugely successful 2015 season.
The three of us became fast friends as we worked so well together. Each of us contributing our individual expertise and strengths, we wanted to build something amazing and unique together. Knowing that the Am-Asian culture was growing in popularity, we decided to build an approachable, recognizable and reliable "island" brand with a Cali vibe.
Flip Sigi IS The Original Filipino Taqueria®. Simply put, we are about tacos, burritos, burgers and bowls that have all been created with a little Filipino love. Our food is Filipino inspired rather than traditional. We embrace that Am-Asian food has a long history of being blended with Chinese, Thai, Spanish and Indian flavors. This combination of cuisines gives Jordan endless possibilities. At Flip Sigi, we decided to utilize the Mexican food format that most Americans are familiar with.
The name Flip Sigi translates to ‘Go Filipino’! Come check us out!
